Naloxone Saves Lives
Since 2016, change, grow, live (CGL) have distributed 13,000 free Naloxone kits to service users, family members and the public to help out in potential opiate/opioid overdose situations. This huge promotional drive, accompanied with training and an excellent #NaloxoneSavesLives awareness campaign means that the kits have been used 464 times. That’s 464 lives potentially saved – and all it takes is a 5 minute training session.
We have been running training sessions with our CGL ResoLUTiONs staff members this week which has received most excellent feedback.
What is Naloxone?
In short, it is a pure opioid antagonist. It works by reversing the depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system caused by opioids i.e. overdose. The intramuscular kits we provide start working within five minutes to potentially save a life.
The reason we also offer the training and kits to family members and hostel workers (to name a few) is because 75% of overdoses happen in the presence of others. How many more lives could be saved if that 75% had access to the correct training?
